Emilie (she/her) is the type of friend who bakes everyone their birthday cake, and they’re good ones at that. Great ones. This labor of love is a true testament to the type of friend and person she is: generous, thoughtful, and a true talent in the kitchen. Her knowledge of food is intimate and impressive; Emilie has her WSET Level 2 Award in wines (she hosted a wine tasting for my birthday in the park last year which was heavenly AND informative, a combination you don’t come across often) and she has her own food and wellness blog called @RedHeadedWellness. It wouldn’t be unheard of to overhear Emilie talking about the homemade croissants she and her partner made earlier that morning, or what type of varnish they’re using after reworking a vintage dining room table. In the same breath she might tell you about the time she was on the Jerry Springer show or tell you a story that’s so vulnerably honest and funny that you’re left with a laugh-induced side cramp. She is a million things at once, but she does every one of them so well.
The Outfit
When I asked Emilie to describe her outfit in 3 words, she said:
Cozy British Homestead.
Emilie has an ability of making cozy feel sophisticated. Perhaps it’s the British influence, but there is something about her look that feels intrinsically tied to aspirational simple living. As you see in both her clothes and her dressing, a zingy take on a green goddess, Emilie can take something classic and makes it feel fresh. Her essence is in the intention behind what she chooses, each item she wears stacking up to be comfortable but considered.
The Dressing
When asked to describe her dressing in 3 words, Emilie said:
Zingy Green Goodness.
This dressing is inspired by the mojo verde sauce from Towpath Cafe, a beloved canal-side cafe in De Beauvoir Town. She and her partner Joe make it all the time, and Emilie admits that Joe is the true master at this recipe. The both of them move with such ease in the kitchen, and I find it hypnotizing. As Emilie chopped vegetables on the long wooden table in her garden, I looked around at the markings of spring; greenery sprouting from every corner and speckled sunlight we’ve been hoping for all winter. Though we purchased the ingredients at a market down the road, it all felt unmistakably farm-to-table. Using a whole bunch of coriander gives the dressing a bright green color and flavor, while the addition of kewpie mayo and a jalapeño give it a creamy kick. There, in her green and sunny garden, I felt the feelings she evokes with her presence and style - comfortable and inspired.
Not-Your-Mamas Green Goddess Dressing
Ingredients:
1 Whole Bunch of Coriander (Cilantro) - Roughly Chopped
2-3 Garlic Cloves
Olive Oil
White Wine Vinegar
Kewpie Mayo
1 Jalapeño / Green Chili (Optional)
Salt & Pepper
For this recipe, you’ll need either a blender or an immersion blender to mix everything together.
Her outfits, her ingredients and her approach to living is down-to-earth and romantically grounded, but has elements of playfulness, zest, and aspiration. And somehow, all the while, she makes it all look easy. Just as she does when she bakes us our birthday cakes.
Thanks for reading! Until next time. <3
You've captured the Emilie magic. And my god, those tomatoes....! 😍
